Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has appointed Visionary Leader Tarun Garg as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. This historic appointment makes Mr. Garg the first Indian national to lead HMIL since its establishment nearly three decades ago.

Currently serving as Whole-time Director & Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Garg has been instrumental in driving HMIL’s growth and operational excellence. Over the past two years, he has worked closely with Hyundai Motor Company’s global leadership as part of a structured succession process. Under his tenure as COO, HMIL achieved record sales for three consecutive years, delivered record profitability, and successfully completed India’s largest IPO in 2024.

Mr. Garg will succeed Unsoo Kim, who will transition back to a senior role at Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea. An industry veteran with prior experience at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Mr. Garg brings deep market understanding and a people-first leadership approach.

As MD & CEO, his strategic priorities will include future-ready strategy, customer-centricity, people development, and strengthening the ‘Make in India’ vision, reinforcing HMIL’s role in India’s evolving automotive landscape.
