AI pioneer Yann LeCun has announced that he is starting a new role as Executive Chairman at Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI) Labs, effective January 2026, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career spanning academia, industry research, and applied AI innovation.

A globally respected professor, researcher, and R&D leader, Yann LeCun brings decades of expertise across artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, robotics, intelligent data analysis, and data compression. Alongside his new role at AMI Labs, he continues to serve as the Jacob T. Schwartz Professor of Computer Science at New York University, a position he has held since 2003.

LeCun is widely known for his leadership at Meta (formerly Facebook), where he served as VP & Chief AI Scientist and led Facebook AI Research (FAIR), shaping global AI research strategy and breakthroughs. His career also includes senior research roles at AT&T Bell Labs, AT&T Labs Research, and NEC Research Institute, as well as entrepreneurial ventures as a co-founder and advisor to technology startups.

In his new role at AMI Labs, LeCun is expected to guide long-term research vision, scientific strategy, and responsible AI innovation at scale.
